Depending on which spot in the Historical Old Town of Salzburg you want to visit, it is an approximately 10 to 20 minutes walk to get there. The Adlerhof is near the train station, located in the northern part of Salzburg. When walking south, towards the Old Town, you will first reach the
"Mirabell Gardens (about 500 meters from Adlerhof; that is where the Old Town starts). Behind the Mirabell Gardens, there is
Mozarts Residence (about 800 meters from Adlerhof) and one of the old main streets, the Linzergasse (about 900 meters from Adlerhof).
Then you have to cross the river to reach the other part of Salzburgs Old Town, as the historical centre stretches over both sides of the
Salzach river . Right after crossing one of the bridges over the Salzach, you will reach the other old main street, the Getreidegasse (about 1.1 km from Adlerhof). In Getreidegasse, you will also find
Mozarts birthplace . Just about 200 meters from Mozarts Getreidegasse, there is the
historic Church District , where the
cathedral , the
archbishops palace as well as the nicest churches in town are located. The path and the train, leading up to the
fortress of Hohensalzburg is also right there.
Of course, the Historical city centre can also easily reached by public means of transport. Public busses run frequently from the main train station (about every 5 minutes) into the Old Town. By bus, it takes you approximately 5 minutes to reach Mozarts Residence and another 2 minutes to reach Getreidegasse. 24 hour tickets for the bus are available for about Euro 5 / adult.
